The Chrysler / Petty KitCar
.........these 'forgotten' racing machines sold by Chrysler Dealers in the mid-late 70's were the result of input from the Petty Group, Dale Earnhardt Sr, the Arringtons, Chrysler's Larry Rathgeb, and many short track hotshoes. After 3 years of development, in 1976 these were offered to the racing public as Aspen / Volare bodied tube frame racecars, though 1978. About 110 were built and this special order was one of the last built, making this a VERY rare MoPar.
Although it had the F body-skin, it retained the E body front longitudinal torsion bar suspension, and was available with a real NASCAR 355 W-2 motor, right from the local MoPar Dealer.
Not to be mistaken with the street version KitCar, these were serious race bred machines.
West Coast racer, Doug Dodd specially ordered this Roadrunner for TransAm and IMSA roadracing, from West Valley Dodge, Los Gatos California, and took delivery Dec 29,1978.
West Valley's Original Invoice shows Doug paid 10,825 plus sales tax 703.62 , for this Chrysler/ Petty built " KitCar Complete " for the TransAm and IMSA roadrace series, which included the 355 W-2 engine and Frankland Quickchange rear.

Doug sold the car in 1985 to racer Howard Lomacaf
Now found, substantially the same as delivered to Doug in 1978, except for the later box style fenders from the GT-1 period
This one , set up for roadracing , was found in unmolested condition. As seen in these pre-restoration photos, it still retains the best in equipment available at the time, and sporting late 80's GT-1fenders and nose.
